Dishwasher Repairs is Not Always a DIY Thing

Dishwasher Repairs is Not Always a DIY Thing

Servicing a home dishwasher in Brisbane (or anywhere) must start with an assessment of what the problem is that requires servicing.  Dishwashers need servicing from time to time due to age and usage.  Before you contact a dishwasher repairs Brisbane provider, try to determine the cause of the fault and in doing so you may be able to fix it without the need for a service call.  The Troubleshooting Guide below presents common dishwasher problems or faults and their common fixes.

Troubleshooting Guide...

Common dishwasher problems and their “quick fix” solutions are:

  • There is water and/or soap leakage around the door.

There are two common causes of this problem:

  1. The gasket is worn out. Gaskets eventually lose their ability to seal and must be replaced.  A worn gasket appears brittle, not pliable, and may show tears at the corners and the latch.  If the gasket appears worn, contact a dishwasher repair firm.
  1. The temperature where the dishwasher resides is too cold. Gaskets below 5°C lose their ability to seal.  Raise the temperature in the room where the dishwasher resides to something above 5°C, ideally above 20°  If too low a temperature is the cause, raising the room’s temperature will provide the solution.
  • The dishwasher cycles as it should but the dishes are still wet at the end of the drying cycle.

This common problem is usually caused by water that is too “hard.”  Hard water contains an excess of calcium carbonate.  A softener should be added to the dishwashing soap dispenser along with the soap.  Some models have a separate compartment for the softener.   Before you add the softener, operate the dishwasher through all of its cycles, empty and without any soap.  Running the dishwasher through its cycles empty cleans all hardness (calcium carbonate) so the softener can do a better job of rinsing when it is operated normally.  If the problem persists, contact a dishwasher repair firm about adding a water softener to your water inlet.  Adding a water softener to your inlet water line will solve all hard water problems.

  • The heated drying cycle does not work.
  1. This can be caused by the heating element “burning out.” If this is the case, the element must be replaced.  Be sure to get an estimate of the cost of this repair and if it is within 50 per cent of the cost of a new dishwasher, the smart move is to get a new dishwasher and not repair the old dishwasher.
  1. The wiring on the heating element is loose. If you can get to the heating element wiring, it is obvious is a loose wire is the cause.  Be sure to unplug the dishwasher prior to checking the heating element wiring.  If you are not comfortable checking electrical wiring, contact a dishwasher repairs Brisbane  Home electrocutions occur when homeowners attempt to troubleshoot or repair electrical devices without sufficient knowledge.

If the troubleshooting guide does not identify the problem, contact a dishwasher repair Ipswich firm.  Do not attempt to dismantle the dishwasher, do not attempt to solve electrical problems on your own.  Attempting repairs on any appliance if you are not knowledgeable about the appliance and electrical issues, only adds to the ultimate cost of repairs and can lead to serious consequences when electricity and water are both involved in the same vicinity.
